ANNOUNCEMENTS for APRIL 2024

Holiday Closure Updates: Lewis County transfer stations in Centralia and Morton are CLOSED on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024

Lewis County transfer stations are closed on Sundays and all major holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

  • The WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are teaming up with Centralia College, the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility and others in the community to host the fourth Repair & Sustainability Fair.. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 in the SWFT Center at Centralia College, 807 W. Pear Street. In addition to the Repair & Sustainability Fair, there will be tool recycling of gently used tools, educational workshops, and information booths. Local residents will have the opportunity to have sensitive documents shredded from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The truck will be parked along King Street, between Washington Hall and the SWFT Center.

  • The Lewis County Solid Waste Utility is accepting comments on the Lewis County Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Plan draft update. Washington State law, RCW 70A.205, requires that each county prepare a comprehensive solid waste management plan, and update it periodically. With collaboration from the Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee -- an advisory group to the Lewis County Commissioners, each city within Lewis County, and a consulting team from Herrera Environmental, the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility has developed a draft update of the Lewis County Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Plan. The purpose of the plan is to provide a guide for solid waste, hazardous waste, material reduction, recycling, and composting in Lewis County for the next 20 years. The draft plan update is now available for public review: Lewis County Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Plan draft update, or copies can be read at one of the Timberland Libraries in Lewis County or the Toledo Community Library. Comments on the draft plan update can be submitted to swu@lewiscountywa.gov or mailed to Lewis County Solid Waste Utility, P.O. Box 180, Centralia, WA 98531.
  • The Lewis County Not sure whether the item you no longer want or need should be thrown away, donated or recycled? Check out Lewis County's Waste Widget, a searchable database for many household, business, and construction items.
  • Hazardous Waste Collection days at the East Lewis County Transfer Station near Morton will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. Residential customers can drop off left-over cleaners, lawn, garden, and pool chemicals at no charge. No businesses may drop off hazardous chemicals during this time. The next Morton collection day is May 9, 2024.
  • The Hazo Hut in Centralia is open Wednesdays and the first & third Saturday (except holidays) of each month. Businesses may visit by appointment only.
  • Customers are only be permitted to drop off motor oil and antifreeze on Wednesdays and the first and third Saturday (except holidays) of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the Hazo Hut is open. Each customer will be permitted to drop off 5 gallons of motor oil during these times. RCW 70A.224.030 limits each household to depositing 5 gallons of motor oil each day. Lewis County Solid Waste Disposal District Approve Certain New Fees at Lewis County Transfer Stations

The Lewis County Solid Waste Disposal District No. 1 approved increases for certain fees following a March 25, 2024, public hearing. The new fees for Lewis County transfer stations in Centralia and Morton will go into effect July 1, 2024.

  • *$120/ton with a minimum fee set at $20 for 340 pounds or less (to include a 3.6 percent refuse tax) for municipal solid waste
  • *$140/ton with a minimum fee set at $35 for 500 pounds or less (to include a 3.6 percent refuse tax for bulky waste
  • *$100/ton with a minimum fee set at $15 for 300 pounds or less for grass clippings, leaves and non-chippable yard waste

*The above proposed rates will be rounded using standard rounding rules.

  • $30 each for refrigerated appliances (refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units)
  • $10 each for passenger or light truck tires with rims or without rims

LEWIS COUNTY TRANSFER STATIONS

Tipping fee is $100.00 per ton; minimum fee is $15.00 for 280 pounds or less. *Please note on July 1, 2024, this fee will increase to $120 per ton with a $20 minimum for 340 pounds or less. A 3.6 percent state refuse tax is added to all transaction.
